Saving

How do I save an article?
Share it to Evening Reader from Safari or any app, or copy the link and tap Paste on the bar that appears in the library. On the front page, the field at the bottom takes a link or a search too.
How do I add a book?
Share an EPUB file to Evening Reader from Files, Mail or any app, or open it and choose Evening Reader from “Open in”. The book arrives with its cover, its chapters and a table of contents.
My book wouldn't open.
Books protected with DRM — most bought from a store, and any .acsm file — can't be opened, and the app says so rather than saving something that would fail later. Books without DRM, including everything from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks, open as expected.
A page saved with no text, or the wrong text.
Some pages build their text after loading, and a few aren't articles at all. Try Try Reading Again from the row's menu; if that doesn't help, the page still opens in the built-in browser, and I'd like to hear about it — send me the link.

Your library

Where is everything kept?
On the device, and — when iCloud Drive is on for Evening Reader — in your iCloud, as plain folders: one per article, with the text, the pictures and a Markdown copy. You can see them in Files under iCloud Drive › Evening Reader, and on a Mac. Nothing is locked inside the app.
Why is my library empty on a new device?
Make sure iCloud Drive is on for Evening Reader (Settings › your name › iCloud › iCloud Drive), then open the app and give it a minute. The list fills in as the folders arrive; the text and pictures come down after, so a page may show “Fetching from iCloud…” briefly the first time it's opened.
Does it work offline?
Yes — that's the point of saving. Everything in the library is downloaded and kept, including a whole book's pictures. The built-in browser, of course, needs a connection.

Reading

How do I highlight, or look something up?
Select a passage on the page. The bar that appears offers Highlight, Define (for a single word), Search, and Ask when Apple Intelligence is available on your device. Tap a highlight later to write a note or remove it; the highlighter button on the front page gathers every highlight in the library.
The page is too bright, or too dim.
Tap the sun in the top bar. Warmth, brightness and contrast are three sliders; Night flips the page to amber ink on near-black. Save keeps a setting you like, so you can switch between a daytime and an evening glow in a tap.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. Asking about a passage needs a device with Apple Intelligence; everything else works everywhere.
